Things are quiet but in a few minutes they will seem like chaos. The last push of selling our house, & packing up the car is about to commence. 6 months of waiting have finally arrived, and I will finally be able to be under the same roof as David. To catch you all up, here’s what’s happening in our crazy lives!
In January David found out he got a new job he’s been waiting years to hear back from. Within 2 weeks he was headed off to training. Talk about a whirlwind! Over the next 6 months, we found out we would be moving to Chicago, and plans were being made. With this new job, we are going to be moving every couple years. Along with all the changes, I put a pause on photography and poured all my time into my work at the YMCA. I had a photography plan, and then the plan got confused, and so I froze. I got asked daily, “What’s your plan?” to which I would reply, “I don’t know”. Was I finally gonna put my masters degree to use in a higher-ed job, another youth development job? Was it going to be part-time or full time. Was I still going to continue photography? So I decided to avoid making a decision…for months.
I think the idea of becoming a travel photographer was always in the back of my mind. It wasn’t until I realized how much I hated job searching, and then the thought that I would have to job search every year and a half or so was horrifying. I think it hit me, that job hopping was not a good plan. Pursuing photography, especially travel photography provided me the opportunity to pick up and go.
Now I know what you’re thinking…What is travel photography? Well, that’s where things get interesting. I’m still figuring out what that looks like for me. Through a lot of prayer and the help of an amazing business coach, things are coming together.
So, the next time I post I will no longer be in beautiful, green, hot North Carolina, but in the cold concrete jungle of urban Chicago!
As we close this chapter in our life, I want to thank everyone who made our time in North Carolina some of the best years of our life. We have loved getting to know everyone! You are part of our NC family and we promise we will be back to visit. Here’s a look back on some of the events and people that shaped our stint in NC. Thanks for the memories!
